    Get Out & Check Out:
    Big Spring International Park

    You're Ready with Blue
    Big Spring International Park

Yes, it’s got a spring. But it’s also got a historic canal. A sundial from Germany. A bridge from Japan. And so much more.

Explore a downtown park with a fascinating history.

It used to be called just “Big Spring,” because it was designed around Huntsville’s original water source, a fresh spring that produced 8 million gallons of water per day. The park is also the site of the historic Indian Creek Canal, connecting the spring to the Tennessee River. The park achieved international status because of the many donations from around the world, including the German sundial, Japanese bridge and many more gifts you can enjoy to this day.

Take a stroll. Feed the fish. And don’t forget the ducks.

The park’s beautifully maintained walking trails take you along the spring and a large pond where you’ll find large koi and goldfish below and the friendly resident ducks above, all looking for a snack. But don’t worry — you can get yourself a handful of fish or duck feed at several vending machines or stands in the park. It’s a fun tradition that makes a family walk even more memorable.

Look for bigger things ahead at Big Spring.

Big Spring International Park is the expected trail head of the future Singing River Trail of North Alabama. A 70-mile bicycling and walking trail, it will connect Huntsville to several other Alabama cities with an extended path along the Tennessee River.
