What is considered “preventive care?” And is it covered?
Those are two good questions that anyone who’s been recommended for a preventive screening should know.
Preventive care is routine, proactive healthcare designed to prevent illnesses, diseases and other health problems before they become serious. Generally, preventive care includes things like:
- Your annual physical exam
- Vaccines
- Well-baby and well-child care
- Blood pressure screenings
- Recommended cancer tests and screenings at certain ages for breast, colon, prostate, lung and cervical cancer
- Other health screenings for things like osteoporosis and diabetes
Your Blue Cross plan covers all of those at no cost to you. But that’s only a small sample of the many preventive services covered by your plan. View a full list of the preventive services available.
